Worried about my choice of colour... black stone.

Hi all.

I have ordered a 1.6s diesel with s/s and i'm picking it up Christmas eve!

The dealer didn't have a Black Stone volvo (of any model) in stock so described it as a 'deep colour' he said the shine is deeper than that of the metallic black as it is a solid colour.

Now I'm reading of everyone loving the metallic black one and wonder if i've made a mistake.. has anyone got a Black Stone and do you like it?

Its my first ever new car and I expect to keep it for many years so I want to love it.

I will be getting the new shape so of course i've never actually seen the car in the flesh and the only C30 the dealer had in was an R-Design so the car itself is going to be quite a surprise to me. Roll on Christmas....

i've got BSM but black stone is not a mistake by any means. the solid colour CAN look superb IF you keep it clean and maintain it.

I've had a black Ford van long wheel base, a black 04 Focus SVT and now my LAST black car, the C30. When clean and polished NOTHING, imho, looks better. Being anal about keeping it that way takes some time but worth it! I'm just getting too old(the knees go first) to be detailing every week, hence the use of Zaino products...last longer, easier to clean. Don't 2nd guess your choice, you'll love it. Just know that it takes a little more time to make it look its best.

Hmmm one sentence comes to mind.... What is this 'detailing' of which you all speak?

And there lies the problem, I'm crap at keeping my car clean

I've never had a car from new though, always someone else's cast offs so who knows, this time it could be different!

I'm loving all the BSM pictures and I want my car to look like that. Surely there can't be that much different between metallic and solid.

It will be lovely because its mine!

If the car is not due until Christmas it should still be changable.

Don't buy Black Stone; it’s a nightmare for showing the marks etc. and scratches so easy just from washing, Black Sapphire is much harder wearing.

We often have to machine polish new ones!

Hope I've not put the cat amongst the pigeons, but it's best to be honest I always try to steer customers away from it on all models not just C30's.

I have owned cars with both Black Sapphire Metallic and Black Stone.

I personally prefer the Black Stone

and that is what I have on my C30. I am very happy with the C30 Black Stone and would not change it for the BSM.

That said, if BS was not available, I'd take BSM as a 2nd choice and be very happy with it! Once I decided that I wanted a C30, I had 3 very specific exterior / interior color and material desires. If I had not gotten one of those 3, I would not have bought one.... It took me almost a year of looking & waiting to get what I wanted, but I got it in the end.

Sorry I'm unclear from your OP - are you getting a 2011 R-Design body style, or just the regular 'basic' body style? Can you even order a 2011 R-Design body style in Black Stone? You never could before as far as I'm aware. Not aware that the regular 'basic' body style could be ordered in BSM up to now either?

For me my answer depends on which body style you're going with because you may not even be able to get that color in your body style and the ? would be moot.

I agree this would be the determining factor. In 2008, you could opt for virtually any color of the rainbow, plus 'art' coatings. For 2010, it looks like the color choices are very limited and model specific.

shirl's getting a 1.6S(not r design) drive with stop start.
the confusion is in the fact that the dealer only had an r design c30(no other variant and not black either) in the showroom.

350v8s10 your car is beautiful. Thank you for posting it for me to drool over lol!

After reading C30-UK's helpful post about Black Stone scratching easily I had made the decision to ring up tomorrow and change my order to BSM. Then you post such a beautie! How are you finding the paint finish? I'm nervous about scratches now.

No I'm not getting the R-Design, just the basic S style. I am the type of person who researches everything in fine detail however with the C-30, things just got carried away.

I went car shopping with hubby, not even looking for myself. I saw the C30 and had wanted to get back into a Volvo after having a ten year old S40 a number of years ago.

The dealer told us about the offers available and hubby said I should get one and have it as my Christmas/birthday present but the deadline was looming for Christmas delivery. The only C30 my dealer had was an 08 R-Design so I have actually not seen an S series.

The C30 is on order but I do feel a bit rushed, for instance when asked about the interior I didn't even know the options so just took the dealers recommendation of dark/charcoal.

Then I discovered this forum and i'm learning so much stuff. I couldn't have afforded the R-Design anyway but I wish I had researched the colours available etc a bit more.

I know I will love it but I wish I had gone into the dearlership knowing what I wanted. Dumb eh

So the only question now is can you order a 1.6 basic S style in BSM? As far as I know you haven't been able to in years past (only Black Stone ) Hopefully for your sake that's changed w/ MY 2011... Good luck and keep us posted...

It must have changed because the dealer built the C30 on the website in front of me and I had both options. I didn't realise this hadn't been the case in recent years.
