Refreshed Volvo C30 peeks out ahead of Frankfurt

I will say it.... ewwwwwwwwww I like my 2009 version much much better!!! Somehow this refresh to the front end does not appeal to me at all but on the larger sedans, it does look nice.

I'm definitely glad now that I have a 'Gen 1' after seeing this pic. Not loving the front at all! Maybe it'll look better in the R-Design, but the 2011 base-model T5 front-end is horrid IMHO...

Interior is great. Exterior is too fussy, too angular

So now the question becomes...can we order the individual parts for the new Sport Chassis? It seems more comprehensive than just the Dynamic Chassis plus sport lowering springs option we've had previously. (Note the revised dampers and quicker steering ratio)

Quote:
To compliment the Volvo C30's new dynamic style, an optional Sports chassis will be available which gives the C30 a significantly sharper ride. The introduction of the Sports chassis means the car is lowered by 10 millimetres, resulting in a lower centre of gravity enhancing the driving characteristics. The steering is more precise owing to the installation of stiffer bushings. The steering ratio is lower, giving a 10 percent faster response to steering wheel input. Spring stiffness has been increased by 30 percent to deliver a more dynamic ride. The dampers too are stiffer and are designed to build up pressure more quickly. The roll stabilizers are also stiffer to reduce any leaning tendency when cornering. The new sport chassis is available as an option in all C30 variants except with the 1.6D DRIVe with Start/Stop. (More information on the new Sport chassis to follow)

Would be cheaper and a much more dramatic performance increase to just go ahead and get coil overs. 10% quicker steering ratio will likely cost $1k plus installed. An old honda I had needed a new steering rack. It was $500 for the part alone back in the mid 90's.

The New Front LOGO is 4 inches across.......way too big on a C30.

I agree completely...the new logo is WAY too big. That thing probably has an affect on performance blocking the grille.

Now what I'm confused about is they say this is the 2010, but there are already people with the 2010's (which look just like the 2009). So my question is will they change up the design of the current 2010 to this new 2010? Or is this actually going to be the 2011 model that will be released in the year 2010?

I really dislike the exterior of the new Volvo designs. The interior is nice though.

hahaha am I the only person who actively likes the direction the design is going? I think it's a pragmatic move on Volvo's part. They're keeping up with a quickly changing market., and frankly, they could have done muuuuuch much worse. (here's lookin' at you, mazda 3)

I'm definitely with you there. But I'm happy to have, as ChrisS put it in one of the other threads, my classic C30. (Of course I had always planned to drive mine into the ground, so I guess I am just moving into classic territory ahead of schedule.)

Apart from aesthestics, I had a honeycomb grill on my Mazda CX-7 and it was a PIA to clean.

The big logo reminds me of the current Ralph Lauren offerings, with the enormous Polo logos. Do we really need to see them from a football field away?

I'd like to see the R-Design without the funky metal stuff on the bottoms and with a matching body kit.

So far the only pictures we have is of the nasty orange and brown body kit . Then that underbody metal trim just looks bad imho as well, it makes it look like an XC-30. lol

I think a solid color body kit without the metal might not look bad at all. The front end is going to take some getting used to though.

I agree the 2011 R-Design pic Lron posted on the other thread definitely looks much better IMO and is bearable to me at least.
