Exclamation Passion Red - Color fading in sun possible?

Hi,

I was wondering, sometimes you see these old red cars, with a rather disgusting faded red paint (fading from red to pink to sometimes even white....)

Do you think this fading will happen to passion red C30's as well?

I have no means of storing the car in a garage, so it will be exposed to all kinds of weather....

I have ordered also a Waxoyl treatment.

http://www.waxoyl.nl/pages/products.html?CatID=491

That ensures 3 years of protection of you're paint and that the color does not fade.

(En kost maar €90,-- voor hele auto.. Moet je maar even kijken).

Better to be sure..

Going to be busy with Passion Red C30's in the Netherlands.. :-)

Thumbs up

Thanks Michel, great tip!
I will definately have my passionate red car protected from UV radiation, acid rain and bird poo.....

We might meet each other in the infamous traffic jams here I reckon ;-)

Depends on which part of the country you are. :-)

The only thing I got. When I order my bodykit later this year. I also needs to be protected with Waxoyl. But it will be save then also.

Everyone should order that sort of thing (usually diamondbrite or supaguard in the UK) on a brand new car to keep it lookin' fresh!

I'm from Utrecht, but commuting everywhere in the Randstad

I haven't heard about such products before, but since it's a company car, I'd like to give it the best treatment possible :)

Well it's my own so extra carefull with it. No lease car but paid myself.

My dealer came with it after I asked about protection for my car. They use it on all there new cars.

I'm from Haarlem so who knows we see each other..
But that's one of the nice things of this C30 there are no much on the road yet. ;-)

I think the days of fading paint are well behind us. I haven't seen car less than 20 years old with that sort of problem for a long time.

I once learned from Discovery Channel this fading only occurs with solid red paint (not metallic), due to the pigment used being more prone to color separation than other colors.

But I can imagine nowadays the UV protection on cars is way better that 20 years ago.

However, I'll take no risk and have the body Waxoyled nonetheless :)

Hi,

Sorry been awol a while, very busy right now.

I used to own bright red car which was new in 1987 when I bought it, and being the sad person I am I used to wash and polish it on a regular basis, always kept it outdoors and it never faded, and it never had anything other than good quality polish used but no paint treatments when new. The paint never faded but when I had to have bodywork done because of rust, it was a Ford Fiesta the paint match was fine in daylight but awful under streetlight. Paint is better these days but it did put me off solid red's....

Based on the posts to this thread I've had the Autoglym product applied professionally by the dealer. I'm not usually the sort of guy who spends hours every week slavishly washing and polishing my car so I thought it a good investment. I know this doesn't mean I never have to wash my car, but it should reduce the amount of effort required!
