Burned CD Reads "Disc Unreadable"
Hmm....I burned a couple of CDs from iTunes, and they won't read in my C30 CD player. Strange, because I've done this before, and they read just fine in my XC70 and in all the other players I've played them in, including my home DVD player. Anybody else had problems? Is there something special I should do? (BTW, these are tracks that I put in iTunes from CDs that I actually own, not "stolen" music, so I wouldn't think it's a DRM issue). And I have a v1.0, so this is the standard audio system. Thanks!

What format are the files? My understanding is that the standard cd player will play only regular music CDs, which is why I ordered the High Performance system. Does it work ok with normal CDs?

Yep, it works just fine with regular CDs, never had a problem. I can't believe the player wouldn't play MP3 files tho, in this day and age...I guess I'll have to break down and read the manual. :-)
Thanks.

Yep, that's what I thought too, and I wasn't thrilled to pay a lot extra to be able to do this. If you have an Ipod or other player, try plugging that into the Aux plug and see if that works...good luck!

Yep, the iPod works great in the AUX jack. I thought I'd read somewhere that while "regular" CDs did not work with the system's Text display capabilities, homemade CD's would...that's what I was shooting for...hmmm....thanks for the input!

Are you sure that the files on the CD were MP3's and not some other format that the C30's CD player cannot play?

Alright, problem solved. Yes, the basic system WILL play MP3's. Not only that, but it also displays the track name, though not the name of the disc. I downloaded a program called "Switch" and processed the files through it, even tho some of the original files claimed they were MP3's, they wouldn't play. When I converted them to MP3 format using Switch (btw, I'm on a Mac) they worked just fine. I also found out that if you mix even ONE copy protected song onto a disc, it appears that it will fail to read anything on the disc.
Bottom line, the v1.0 stock CD player does play MP3's, and displays track names (even scrolling them if they are too long.) FYI, thanks!

iTUnes uses AAS or MP4 format (?), they don't compress the same way as MP3, you need to convert iTune playable files into MP3s. It is so confusing with these formats but alas..
With MP3 you can put so much more music on 1 CD... instead of converting iTunes into wav files - 20 tracks max on average 4 minute song? Last edited by dks35; 02-07-2008 at 09:29 PM. |

Yep, I had a conglomeration of different file types in a big folder, and some were named with .mp3 extensions...however, I believe that some of them were actually .m4p (not a typo, that's what the "Get Info" button said, not "mp4"). Anyway, when I ran them through the converter, they worked just fine in the CD player. I just wish there was a way to display the CD name, instead of Track 1, Track 2, etc...thanks to everyone!

.m4p are protected iTunes AAC audio files. You can change your settings in iTunes so that when you rip a cd (if that's how you do it) it won't put the stupid DRM on them leaving you with .m4a files.

Yep, it certainly does. I have a v1.0 with the standard audio system, and it plays CDs I burned with .mp3 files, and also shows the track name information!

You have got it right, only High Performance and Dynaudio play mp3. Obviously, the "standard" audio system in the US is not the same with EUDM, as v1.0 comes with High Performance audio system as standard (I checked the US site)

Thanks for the clarification, I thought that what I had was the base model audio system, but it does "boot up" to the High Performance screen when you turn the system on. So there is a difference between the "base" audio systems in the US and non-US versions that I was not aware of. Thanks...

Thanx both of u for the clarification... thought that it would be something like that. There are usually some minor differences.
