Alternative to Volvo Sat Nav

From Swedespeed: http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=87954

It would appear that A Garmin unit can be installed in the car by the dealer?

Watch the thread for more info. This may be what Max was talking about.

I was scratching my head when I read it on Swedespeed last night.

Basically... it's an OEM NAV screen (with the correct dash piece) plus a Garmin brain.

So, theoretically, anyone who currently has NAV in his C30 can replace the Volvo unit with the Garmin unit (and keep the Volvo NAV screen).

I don't get it. It doesn't seem to save you much if any money.

It's 646 USD. How much is the Volvo Pop up Screen?

Well, it might be worth it if the Garmin has more up to date or cheaper maps, and the software may be configurable e.g. for adding speed camera databases, different re-routing options, sexier voice on the nav dolly etc
